Selwyn College’s special character reflects our founding and continuing relationship with the Anglican Church. Selwyn College is an Anglican University College, constituted within the Dunedin Diocese and operating as an affiliated college of the University of Otago.
A Board of Governors, appointed under Synod of the Diocese of Dunedin statute, are responsible for governance of the College. The Board is charged with promoting an inclusive academic residential community founded on the principle of mutual care, valuing and promoting the physical and spiritual well-being of all of its members.
Selwyn has its own College Chaplain. Father Michael Wallace is an integral member of the College staff team. As Vicar of All Saints Parish, which adjoins the college grounds, Father Michael is readily available for pastoral support and conversations about the spiritual dimension of life.
Selwyn College’s commitment to the values that distinguish Anglican higher education are evident in the support available to members of college to achieve excellence in their academic education, their personal development and contributions to society.
A diverse range of special character activities are also on offer, including:
As a member of Colleges and Universities of the Anglican Communion (CUAC), we are part of the active world-wide association of Anglican higher education colleges. Selwyn College affirms the CUAC Identity and Character declaration found here: CUAC Declaration.
