Selwyn's historic brick buildings are arranged around a central quadrangle: 'the Quad'. This placement of buildings and the consequent central lawn is usually known as a 'court' in Cambridge where architecturally similar colleges exist. Furnished with a lawn and attractive gardens, the Selwyn Quad is often the centre of College ceremonies as well as a hub for day to day College social life.
All 215 resident members are accommodated across 12 separate buildings. As such, the layout and size of the bedrooms vary as much as the character of each building. To view a sample of bedroom photos click here.
The Northcroft Library and Study Centre is central to Selwyn's collegiate identity. It is a Selwyn-only facility containing, tutorial and seminar rooms and a reading space.
Wireless access is available in all College buildings and common areas via Selwyn's broadband network. Printers are also available for student use, which are connected to the University network.
Selwyn has a newly refurbished gym. The College also has a tennis court which is very well used in the longer summer evenings.
A dedicated music room provides a location for individual practice, whether it be for academic study or retention of musical aptitude. Selwyn residents compete in instrumental, band and choral competitions with Knox College, another residential college in Dunedin, and College House, our sister college at the University of Canterbury, Christchurch.
Members of the Board of Governors, Fellows and the Welfare Team are all members of the Senior Common Room. It is also used to foster links with our Alumni and with the University, and is often used to host formal functions.
